Rebecca Larson is a graduate student at Texas State University studying Digital Media.
Larson completed her undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, College Park, outside of Washington, DC. Throughout both her undergraduate and graduate careers she has repeatedly returned to the study of the portrayal of women and minority groups through language and in the media.
It was this focus that led Larson to begin the Peace and Celebration Project. The LGBTQ community often must depend on allies, straight supporters, to relay their messages to the world. Larson envisioned a series of short interviews with members of the community in which they are able to openly express some of the reasons that marriage equality in Texas would impact them personally. So frequently, in the news, the issue of same-sex marriage becomes one of politics and partisanship. Larson hoped to remind readers that those most directly affected by these decisions are ordinary people whose everyday lives will be impacted.
Larson lives with her wife in San Antonio, Texas.
